How to travel without a plan and find interesting things anywhere you go
Activate all your senses and take your time
If you decide to travel without a plan, hustle and the desire to cover a lot of ground will only get in the way. Just accept it as a fact – you won’t be able to see all the sights from the tourist brochures in one trip. Slow down and take a look around: what interesting places are nearby to your location, what is fed in the neighboring cafe, where a passerby with a dog is heading. Perhaps you’ll find an authentic courtyard or a cozy cafe with local cuisine, and the guy with the dog will lead you straight to a picturesque park.
Talk to the locals
If a stranger tries to talk to you, don’t take it personally. He’s not trying to take up your time – in touristy places, locals show hospitality in this way. You can ask where you’re from and how long you’re traveling for, throw a couple of interesting locations and explain how it will be more convenient to get to them. Don’t be shy and ask questions about the culture, traditions and customs of the place where you are vacationing.
Choose accommodation in the center
If you don’t care how many channels the TV in the hotel shows, because when traveling you come there just to spend the night – book places in inexpensive hostels or guesthouses. They are quite often located in historical centers. If you are not used to saving on amenities, pay attention to the market of daily apartment rentals in the same neighborhoods. This will kill two birds with one stone: you will see an important part of the new city at once, and you will have a comfortable location for further research.
Keep safety in mind
Saying “Yes!” to any venture is a lottery with an unpredictable prize. Things can turn out as fantastic as you never dreamed. See new places, participate in interesting projects, experience a bright resort romance or even meet a life partner – spontaneous travel is full of such plot twists. But the risks are also quite high: a cute guy who invites you to a romantic excursion on the rooftops may in fact be interested only in your wallet.
